Investigative programmes – whether distributed on TV channels or
online platforms – have the responsibility to hold governments,
institutions, business and those in power to account. Our investigative
documentary award is looking for either national or international
productions that have worked hard to tell an important story that has
been difficult to uncover.
The AIB recognises that carrying out investigative journalism requires
significant resourcefulness and determination – our past winners have
demonstrated these attributes with remarkable investigations in the
most challenging parts of the world.
We’re looking for detailed research that has provided incontrovertible
evidence to support any claims made in the programme. We’ll want to
see the subjects under investigation given the chance to respond to
claims, and we’ll want to be sure that any sources have been protected
from possible repercussions.
The story telling will be clear and engaging, with plenty of context for
the viewer who may not have been aware of the issue before this
investigative documentary was aired.
The documentary should have been transmitted or made available
online between 1 June 2015 and 30 June 2016.
