they can use 30 seconds of that, one
minute, or the whole five minutes.
So if you are a broadcaster and are
planning an Olympics preview
programme, there will be material
there for you. In addition we have a
library of aerial or on the ground
shots of London, so we can provide
background material as well.
What format is that in?
It's all in HD 16:9.
How can people register?
Registration will be open right
through until the end of the Games
subject to availability with the main
cut off point on March 31 2012.
There will be a long term
registration process and a day pass,
obviously the shorter term
registrations are subject to capacity.
We can accommodate up to 6,000
accreditations but of course those
will be across broadcast and other
areas like print, digital, photography.
Broadcasters who want to
register will have to have public
liability insurance because that's the
law if you want to film on the street.
Can you help with that?
We certainly would not arrange it
but we can provide links to
organisations that could do, for
example that's where Film London
have huge experience. We are using
their filming guide as our basic
code of practice for the broadcast
guide that we are putting together.
What about accommodation?
Already we are in the process of
helping media with accommodation
around London. So people looking
to register for the Media Centre will
be able to get the best service
available to find the right
accommodation at the right level in
the right area.
This won't necessarily be in the
centre of London. Getting around
with public transport in London is
very quick, also the River Thames is
providing a great way for people to
get around.
Why is the London tourist board
getting involved?
It's fantastic to have the Olympic
Games here and the sport is going
to be stunning. But there are two
stories going on at the time of the
Games – there is the story of Usain
Bolt and the 100 metres but also the
story of the host city and all the
things that are happening there,
how people are enjoying their city,
and what it has to offer to people
coming here from all around the
world.
This includes things like the
existing attractions – West End
eatre, art, fashion, food, city live
and shopping of course –
London as a big business
destination and in addition to that
the cultural event that is inspired
by the Games – the London 2012
Cultural Olympiad.
So what's the message from L & P?
We are here to help and to work
with media so that we can make
their job as easy as possible and
they can help us to showcase this
great city during a very defined
period with huge numbers of
media here.
Mark Howell, thank you.
