nspirational...that's the
adjective we hear time and
time again during the annual
AIBs awards gala evening.
Programme makers from
around the world who attend
the AIBs tell us that they
have been inspired to go out and
create new programmes having
seen such remarkable content
showcased each year.
That's a ringing endorsement of
the annual AIBs, established at the
request of AIB members in 2005.
Attracting nominations from every
continent, the AIBs are a truly
international celebration of factual
programming across TV, radio and
cross-media as well as creative
marketing and innovative
technology.
Broadcasters and independent
production companies have put
forward their most outstanding
productions for consideration by the
international jury that AIB
assembles - comprising independent,
experienced leaders in the field of
TV, radio, journalism and technology.
From Indonesia to Australia,
South Africa to Canada, Germany to
the USA - entries of the highest
quality, with innovative production
values, stimulating content and
great craft skills, have been
submitted, demonstrating the
immense range of quality broad-
casting that's produced by public
and commercial broadcasters.
PEOPLE'S CHOICE
In 2010, AIB innovated with the
introduction of the People's Choice,
giving the general public a vote.
This year, the People's Choice
will reward the best coverage of
democracy uprisings in the Middle
East and North Africa. Broadcasters
everywhere have produced
remarkable insight into events from
Tunisia to Bahrain over the first half
of 2011, reflecting the geo-political
importance of this region.
The People's Choice is a great
way to showcase excellent content
by broadcasters large and small to
a wider audience of viewers who
may not usually tune in to these
broadcasters' programming.
Working with major social
platforms, AIB will upload a range
of content to view in short and long
form from September onwards. The
results of which coverage the public
around the world think is best will
be announced in November.
AWARDSNIGHT
The 2011 AIBs awards will be
presented at a gala evening in
London on Wednesday 9 November.
For the fourth year we are using
the magnificent visual and acoustic
space of LSO St Luke's - a venue
that each year has wowed our
guests from all over the world. It's
I
an evening that celebrates
excellence and success and AIB
goes out of its way to ensure that
guests on the night get a very real
flavour of the quality and the range
of short-listed entries.
INDUSTRY SUPPORT
AIB cannot organise these awards
without the support and involvement
of the industry. We are delighted to
have a number of key sponsors for
this year's awards: Eurosport,
OASYS and RTG TV are all
sponsoring categories within the
2011 AIBs - and the AIB team
extends special thanks to these
companies for their generous
support of this international
competition.
