teleprompter script, but in this case
it is done in conjunction with the
same information being posted to
the web site, so the journalist can
cut and paste from the newspaper
and the on‑line articles. The script
is associated to the video clips as
metadata, and the clips are placed
into a running order. Once the
editor is happy with the content list
for the next hourly loop it is saved
and automatically converted into
an XML script for the playlist, and
an XML file which contains
template and timing information,
as well as details of the graphics to
be played with the video content.
UPDATES
The XML playlist is set for auto
append onto the playout system,
which is hosted at the RoBaGo site,
however the playlist manager has a
special feature that allows for control
and updates. A group is created for
each segment of content, and that
group is set to play in a loop. When
updates are appended to the
playlist they do not start to play out
until the playing group has finished
its loop. So, should there be
changes to the news and should the
editorial staff wish to change the
running order of the next group,
they can do so by changing their
playlist and appending a new
group to the running order.
The playout system uses a “loop
last group” mode, whereby it skips
any groups that have been
appended but where playout has
not started, and jumps immediately
to the last group appended to the
playlist. This allows interim
schedules to be published and for
the editors not to have to worry
about waiting for all the items to be
completed before saving a schedule,
but also not to worry about managing
the playlists on the playout system.
The playout system is set to jump
to the last group loaded, and to
then delete the playlists prior to the
currently playing group, so the
playout system is always up to date
and synchronised to the editorial
schedule.

BREAKINGNEWS
If there is any breaking news the
editors may type the information
into the breaking news section of
their web editor, and they are
presented with an option to choose
Emergency or Regular news. A
trigger is sent over the IP network
while a link to the typed
information is sent to the playout
system and animations and news
crawls and rolls are automatically
started on the playout system.
If the editorial staff wish to
design new graphics templates for
display of the text, pictures or
animations, they can do so on an
off‑line system, and then load any
new templates onto the playout
system. As the templates work with
dynamic data updates, once they
are created they can be used with
multiple video clips, and elements
within the templates are keyed to
start based on the timing of the
video clip so again the editors do
not need to worry about scheduling
complexities, but can focus on just
the news information.
ADDEDREACHOF TV
The combination of the automatic
creation of the XML playlists, along
with the schedule management and
integrated graphics features of
OASYS Player automated playout
solutions have enabled a
newspaper and web publisher to
successfully launch a television
channel without having to learn
how to run or operate any
transmission systems or facilities,
without having to set up any
studios, and without having to
change any of their existing
publishing and editing tools.
Having no newsreader is not
unique for a news information
channel, but running a news
channel without any operators as
well allows 24SATA to minimise the
costs whilst maximising the
benefits of the added reach of
broadcast television.
