Radio is a highly personal medium where listeners tend to feel a great
deal of empathy with the presenters that they hear. So what makes a
great factual radio personality, one who’s worthy of the accolade of
2016
AIBs
radio personality?
We suspect that it’s an ability to relate to the audience on a very
personal basis, combined with a passion for the medium that comes
across very clearly to the listener.
Our judges will be looking for the person who demonstrates a real zeal
for talking authoritatively yet not overbearingly to the listener. It’s
probably someone who is knowledgeable and interested, as well as
interesting.
The best personalities are those who let their guests and interviewees
take centre stage rather than hogging the limelight themselves.
The judges will want to listen to a compilation of the presenter’s work
from a period of some days or weeks to understand fully how they
interact with their listeners. They also need a biography that explains
how they’ve got to where they are now.
Our 2016 radio personality will need to have been on the air regularly
between 1 June 2015 and 30 June 2016.
