Vizrt to Intro Viz Trio One-Box for Cost-Effective Live 3D Graphics and Animation

Nowhere is space more precious than on a mobile video unit. Even the 53-foot expando HDTV trucks are densely packed with gear and extremely crowded at air time. And many studio control rooms aren’t much roomier. So one of the most common complaints and requests that manufacturers hear is to pack more firepower into ever smaller boxes.

As a company that prides itself on responding quickly to customer needs, Vizrt is stepping up with a solution for a critical piece of gear on every live broadcast—the ‘CG,’ or live 3D graphics and animation generator. At the 2010 National Association of Broadcasters show, from April 10-15, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV, Vizrt (Booth SL5408) will showcase Viz Trio One-Box—the latest version of its Viz Trio realtime 3D graphics and animation system.

As one of the most popular and widely installed live graphics systems in the world, Viz Trio is highly versatile, intuitive, and full featured. It allows artists and operators to deliver extremely creative and visually complex graphical presentations that enhance live sports, news, and specials.

Viz Trio previously required two standard desktop PCs to operate—one for Trio client and one for its powerful companion renderer Viz Engine. With Viz Trio One-Box everything, Viz Trio as well as the latest Viz Engine, runs on a single PC with two graphics cards on-board. This means that there is no negative impact on graphics quality or rendering speed. With Trio One-Box, both the VGA preview and final program signals can be viewed on one PC.

“With the new Viz Trio One-Box, the work of two PCs is now being done on one,” explained Gerhard Lang, Chief Engineering Officer, Vizrt. “By consolidating two PCs down to one, we’re saving our customers space. This solves a critical concern for OB [Outside Broadcast] mobile environments and studios where desk and rack space is at a premium.

“We’re also saving our customers money because there’s one less PC to buy,” Lang added. “And we’ve simplified the setup and maintenance of the whole system.”

Among the graphics frequently created using Viz Trio are score boxes, player statistics, game clocks, maps and charts. Trio customers often use another companion product, Viz Artist, for sophisticated 3D graphics, animation and template design.

Viz Trio One-Box will be the standard configuration for all future Viz Trio systems.

Journalist deaths continue to rise

The AIB covered, in its recent edition of The Channel magazine, the International News Safety Institute’s figure of 130 journalists and support staff killed trying to cover the news in 2009.

But new stories from 2010 are once again highlighting the risks for journalists from various dangers. From Haiti reports indicate the death of 26 journalists while Radio Free Europe has the story of a Russian journalist’s death in police custody.

Meanwhile the identification of a photographer among the bodies from the Maguindanao massacre in the Philippines takes last’s death toll yet higher.

These are further reminders, if we needed any, of the debt we owe to those who often risk their lives to help us to make sense of our world.

AIB contributing to RadioAsia 2010

AIB is participating in the RadioAsia2010 conference in New Delhi from 22-24 February.

Simon Spanswick, AIB CEO, is chairing the “Top of the Market” session on Tuesday 23rd and is on the panel to discuss “Change Management in the Radio Industry” on Wednesday 24th.

In a hard-hitting and passionate speech, HM Queen Rania told an audience of
mobile executives about the need for the industry to support the 1GOAL campaign
that aims to secure primary education for the 72million children worldwide who
miss out at the present.

At Mobile World Congress, HM Queen Rania told more than 1,400 people gathered
in the auditorium that the US$16million spent annually on mobile gambling could
pay for one years education for all the children currently out of school.

1GOAL will be running a major mobile campaign over the months leading up to
the FIFA World Cup, and AIB is contributing to the campaign on the broadcast
side
. We are facilitating meetings with broadcasters to get air-time
committed to 1GOAL which will be asking citizens worldwide to sign-up to the
campaign in order to exert pressure on politicians to get the worlds
education-less kids into school.

In New Delhi in late February, AIB will be introducing 1GOAL to radio and
TV broadcasters from across Asia

Al Jazeera announces its strategic initiative “Compass 2012”

Al Jazeera Network announced its strategic plans for the next three years at a dinner for over 500 staff and attended by of board of directors and 25 heads of foreign bureaus at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Doha on the 7th February 2010. Entitled COMPASS 2012 This large-scale project is geared towards consolidating the content produced by all Al Jazeera channels and promoting creativity, strategic positioning in the global media industry, and a dynamic environment for Al Jazeera staff to take the Network into the future.

During the past decade journalism has undergone enormous challenges and many changes. As a result news gathering and in-depth journalism has declined worldwide. Compass 2012 aims to consolidate Al Jazeera’s content and extend Al Jazeera’s standard of professional journalism on all levels. It will widen Al Jazeera’s newsgathering reach in order to enhance the networks capacity to cover stories first hand, and to continue to bring original and challenging journalism to the networks’ viewers.
