The AIBs 2015-Entry Book - page 6

It is the job of a broadcaster to reflect the contemporary world to its
audience, and documentaries are one of the key tools that media
companies have at their disposal.
Our award for domestic current affairs documentary will go to a strong
piece of factual story-telling. It may be a tense observational
documentary or it could be an experimental format. Whatever the
format, the winning documentary will demonstrate that the producers
have a curiosity about the world that they want to share with their
audience.
Whether your documentary is a one-off programme or a series, it will
feel fresh and it will be innovative. Our jury will want to see great
directorial vision, clear planning, excellent camera work, great access
to the main characters or organisations in the story, and first-rate
editing.
The story told in your documentary may be highly topical and turned
around quickly after the story breaks, or it can be a more considered
piece months or years after an event. Whatever the subject, we’re
looking for context that helps the viewer understand the story that is
being told.
All documentaries entered must have been transmitted or distributed
online between 1 June 2014 and 30 June 2015.
