Jan Hoek, the General Director of Radio Netherlands Worldwide, has been appointed chair of the EBUs (European broadcasting Union) International Broadcasting Group as of October 2009. Alongside RNW, the group comprises all the European international broadcasters, including Deutsche Welle, Radio France Internationale/France24 and the BBC World Service. The appointment is for a period of two years.
International public service broadcasters exchange strategic expertise within the International Broadcasting Group: everything from recent developments in the area of content and marketing to new distribution platforms.
Jan Hoek has been general director of Radio Netherlands Worldwide since January 2005. He also holds a number of administrative positions and additional functions in the Netherlands and abroad. He is, for example, chair of the BVN Foundation (international Dutch-language public TV station) and a member of the executive committee of the Association for International Broadcasting. In the Netherlands he is a director of PNO Media Pension Fund, PNO Health Insurance, the Haags Werk Bedrijf (public sector employment in The Hague) and a member of the supervisory board of Free Voice.
