Using a new generation of
lightweight equipment that can
be set up in minutes, Eutelsat
Communications' NewsSpotter
service broadens opportunities
for newsgathering by offering
broadcasters and service
providers the ability to transmit
HD and/or SD live video from the
field in a fast and highly cost-
efficient manner. The service
expands the range of
professional services provided
through Eutelsat’s high-
performance KA-SAT satellite
whose footprint covers Europe,
North Africa and large parts of
the Middle East and is provided
by its Skylogic affiliate.
Compact enough to be carried
in a back-pack for Fly-Away use
and small enough to be fitted on
to a small car for rooftop
mounting, NewsSpotter can
instantly connect mobile news
crews to studios for
transmission of live recordings,
images and data. Providing
native IP connectivity,
NewsSpotter is perfectly
integrated for the workflows of
modern newsgathering
operations. Bandwidth can be
reserved online by news crews,
using a self-booking application
or pre-booked for planned use
and guaranteed reservations.
NewsSpotter uses professional-
grade KA-SAT terminals for
video contribution from crews in
the field to a broadcaster’s
master control room. Using
standard IP routing, the service
is capable of transmitting at
speeds of up to 20Mbps via KA-

Bosses at German TV channels
ARD and ZDF have complained
to Uefa, European football's
governing body, after it was
discovered that coverage of the
European Championship semi-
final between Germany and Italy
was manipulated.
Pictures of a German woman
with tears running down her
cheek were aired just after Italy
had scored their second goal.
However, it later emerged that
the scene had been filmed 40
minutes earlier during the
singing of the national anthem,
which the woman said had
moved her to tears.
News of the story broke when
the fan, identified as Andrea from
Düsseldorf, alerted the German
press to the faked footage, after
she received texts and Facebook
messages from her friends.
German TV chiefs have demanded
an explanation from Uefa, saying

Movile
hits 1m
Appmarket TV reports that
Movile, the largest mobile
content provider in Latin
America, has reached 1m users
with its social video platform
Zeewe TV.
Already hugely popular in
Latin America, Movile is now
targeting the global Latino
market, starting with Latino
audiences in the US. As the only
video viewing and sharing
platform built in HTML5, Zeewe
TV allows for flexibility between
PC and mobile use and aims to
challenge Netflix and Hulu in the
video streaming and sharing
arena.
Thanks to partnerships with
mobile carriers, users don’t pay
for Internet data to watch video
hosted on Zeewe TV servers. This
means that a higher percentage
of users are willing to upgrade
and pay a fee for
full access to
Zeewe TV’s

that the doctored footage risked
damaging their reputation with
German viewers. The TV networks
had lodged a complaint via their
joint sporting rights agency,
SportA, calling on the
governing body to resist similar
"interventions" in future. Uefa has
admitted strategically inserting
the images but said it had done
so only in an attempt to transmit
the full emotional impact of the
game on the watching fans.
