Anthony Rose

CAREER
Born in Cape Town, South Africa, in
1964, Anthony Rose set up his first
company AR Technology aged 15. After
studying Electrical Engineering at
University of Cape Town he emigrated
to Australia where in 1989 he was
granted the first of many patents. He
co-founded games developer Sega
Australia which merged with BII to
form Brilliant Digital Entertainment,
where Rose acted as VP Technology
(1996) and CTO (1997-2001). From 2001
CTO at Altnet and (from 2005) at Kazaa
and Topodia, developing licensed
music store, a next-gen P2P-based
social networking product. Rose
moved to the BBC in 2007 where as
Controller Vision & Online Media
Group he headed up BBC iPlayer, BBC
home page, search, social,
programme sites and other BBC web
properties. From 2010 CTO at YouView,
a next-gen connected TV platform with
shareholders including the BBC, ITV,
Four, BT and TalkTalk. He is currently
CTO of zeebox which he co-founded in
2011 with partner Ernesto Schmitt.
MEDIA USE
Starts the day by going to BBC News
online and The Guardian online, then
to Twitter to see what people are
saying about zeebox and what the
people he follows on Twitter are
saying. Repeats this at lunchtime and
in the evening. Majority of his TV
viewing is on BBC iPlayer which
conveniently remembers where he
left off
FAVOURITES
Very much enjoys working. There are
few things he likes more than Bach or
Wagner playing at high volume on a
set of good headphones while he
writes up product specifications
