RT begins HD broadcast worldwide
RT, the Moscow-based global
news network, is in the process
of upgrading all of its channels
to high definition format
following the move of the
network’s offices to a brand new
space in January. RT launched
its first news channel in 2005
and has since experienced rapid
growth – in programming, staff
size and international reach.
Currently RT reaches more than
550m people in more than 100
countries across five continents.
RT America, one of the
network’s five channels, has
been broadcasting in HD from its
Washington, DC studio since
February 2012. RT’s remaining
channels – the flagship English
language news channel, RT in
Spanish and Arabic, and the
Eurosport multi-screen
subscription
Sports fans who subscribe to
Eurosport Player, the broadcaster's
online simulcast service, are now
able to watch live action on PC,
mobile and tablet for a single
monthly fee. The new pricing
strategy, compatible with iOS
and Android devices, is reflecting
consumer behaviour which
demonstrates fans want access
to live action regardless of
where they are or what device is
to hand.
Eurosport's multi-screen
offer means fans can access
their Player account on a range
of devices and, via multiple live
feeds from selected events such
as tennis Grand Slams, enjoy
different content on different
screens at the same time.
Eurosport's 2013 schedule of live
world class sporting events
starts with the Dakar Rally
(right), followed by the Africa Cup
of Nations football tournament
and the Australian Open Grand
Slam, alongside a full calendar
of wintersports events. Fans
watching on PC also will be able
to rewind up to three hours of
action and play it back and use a
catch-up service from the
quarter-finals onwards.
IN BRIEF
SOCIAL MEDIA TV
RATINGS
Nielsen and Twitter are
partnering to measure TV
viewership and audience
engagement with a new
industry standard metric
that will gauge penetration
based entirely on data from
the popular micro-blogging
website and social network.
The new Nielsen Twitter TV
Rating is intended to serve
as a complement to
Nielsen's existing system
and as a means to
understand social activity.
The ratings will build on top
of NM Incite’s SocialGuide
audience engagement
analytics platform, a joint
venture between Nielsen
and McKinsey & Co.

the upgraded capabilities of RT’s
new Moscow studio. Margarita
Simonyan, RT's editor-in-chief,
says HD is the operating reality

the international market, it was
crucial for RT to offer its

Some RT content has already
been available in HD through
FreeVideo, RT’s online video
agency, which counts more than
14,000 TV channels and news
agencies from 185 countries
around the world among its
