Pacsat provides a range of services to the broadcasting and business markets,
including a full-service studio, fixed Ku uplink, Vyvx connectivity and a
digital post production facility at the company’s headquarters in
Sacramento, California.
The company’s production flyaway units contain up to four cameras,
production switcher, tape playback and character generator while its 11 Ku
band uplink trucks are strategically positioned in key cities across the USA.
Pacsat also has C-Ku flyaways based in London and Miami and has worked in
Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and South America.
PanAmSat
To distribute content quickly and reliably around the world, PanAmSat uses
its global communication network to support services geared toward cable
programmers, network programmers and syndicators.
PanAmSat’s core service is the distribution of television programming, which
enables hundreds of broadcasters to reach growing television audiences
virtually anywhere in the world.
PanAmSat has established a broadcast services department dedicated to
providing international satellite services when events dictate quick action
or allow for months of planning.
The company’s multiple-channel-per-carrier (MCPC) services enable customers
to maximize the value of their satellite capacity by transmitting their video
content over compressed digital channels on a shared transponder.
PanAmSat’s multi-beam-feed programme provides the necessary hardware
for 7,000 qualified cable operators to tap into programming neighborhoods,
which include content from cable’s premier channels.

CBA Conference issues Guidelines
A set of
Guidelines for Public Service Broadcasters
was one of the
outcomes of the CBA General Conference held in Fiji in February.
They are available on the CBA website (
). A second
development was co-operation on Key Performance Indicators
to develop international benchmarking for broadcasters,
spearheaded by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Fijian Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase called for more training of
Pacific region broadcasters. TVNZ CEO Ian Fraser described in a
keynote speech how TVNZ was now operating successfully under
a public remit at the same time as earning revenue from
advertising. Yogendra Pal, director of IT engineering, All India
Radio, described their recent transition to digital equipment,
while Ekwow Spioh-Garbrah, CEO Commonwealth
Telecommunications Organisation, looked at possible future
cooperation between telecoms and broadcasting. Relations
between broadcasters and government were covered by the
Chairman of ABC, Donald McDonald, and Barry Langridge, Head
of Asia and Pacific Region, BBC World Service.
270 people attended the conference, including 69 chief
executives, 22 chief engineers, and 104 senior executives. They
came from 54 countries and 105 organisations, including the
AIB. The CBA has 104 member organisations in 54 countries.
