IN BRIEF
TV AS IT
SHOULD BE
Cloud-based on-demand
service Magine has gone live
in Germany and Spain,
months after launching in
its home market Sweden
where it has proved a huge
success. The company,
which provides cloud-based
live TV and catch-up
programming across Apple
devices and Samsung smart
TVs, plans to extend the
service to more TV platforms
and Android tablets and is
gearing up to launch in 'at
least another four' further
European territories by the
end of 2013.
TV SHOWS BEAT
MOVIES
A GfK study that monitored
the viewing habits and
preferences of 500
subscribers to Netflix Watch
Instantly, Amazon Prime
Instant Video, and Hulu Plus
found that four times as
many TV shows are watched
as movies (81% to 19%).
Four of the top seven
programmes were over
three years old. The report
concludes that streaming
services generate episodic,
niche viewing - more broad
and unpredictable than even
the 200 channels on a
typical cable TV menu.
CHINA STOCKS
UP ON ZDF
ZDF Enterprises has inked
an extensive deal for the
territory of China with LIC
which is acquiring 200 hours
of quality factual
programming. The German
company will be licensing
factual series and shows in
all sub-genres to the
Chinese giant. In addition to
airing ten branded
programming blocks on over
300 channels in China, LIC
also functions as producer
and provider of a wide range
of other media-related
services. In 2013, LIC is
involved in five co-
production/investment
projects with German
partners.
