ITN Source News
recognised for sports
ITN Source News - the news
syndication department of news
and multi-media company ITN -
has been recognised by the
European Broadcasting Union
for its sports news coverage. The
EBU, which is the premier
distributor of sports and news
content to broadcasters in
Europe, revealed that ITN
supplied the Eurovision News
Exchange with an unrivalled 563
sports news items during 2012.
Sports news content supplied
by ITN throughout 2012 included
footage relating to major UK
sporting events such as the
Olympics and Paralympics, as
well as press conferences and
pre-match training for Premier
League football matches, and
sports-related footage such as
the Duchess of Cambridge
playing hockey. Some items were
transmitted hundreds of times
by EBU members, enabling them
to include key shots in their own
news bulletins. The material
itself was shot by ITN news
teams and a video journalist
dedicated solely to ITN Source
News with a remit to shoot
footage of particular interest to
ITN’s international news partners.
Fiona Dodd, Head of News
Syndication at ITN, said she is
delighted that ITN have been
recognised for the service and
the high quality news content
that ITN syndicates across the
globe every day. In 2013-14 ITN
continues to offer a high volume
of quality clips and packages to
EBU members and other
broadcasters across the world –
for example on the 2013-2014
Premier League and the 2014
Commonwealth Games. Clips
are available through bespoke
agreements and via ITN Source's
subscription-based website

RUSSIA TO
COMBAT PIRACY
digitaltveurope.net reports
that a group of Russian
media rights holders
including producer and
channel provider Sistema
Mass-Media and production
companies Amedia,
Bazalevs and Direktsiya
Kino are joining efforts to
create a single technology
company that can monitor
the web and track down
illegal copies of content, or
to jointly contract
monitoring out to a third
party provider. Russia is
notorious for internet piracy
and the initiative follows
President Putin's signing of
a law that protects the
holders of copyright on the
internet.

the-top (OTT) world", with
plans to license full-length
44-minute shows.
