RRI CLICKS AWAY
Radio Romania International
has extended its online on-
demand streaming service to
all its 12 broadcasting
languages/dialects. Now at
users can listen to a
selection of around 25 shows
daily whenever they want, for up
to seven days after the shows
are aired. The programmes
become available as audio files
two hours after broadcast. The
audio files are hosted by the
Romanian state-owned
provider RADIOCOMand by the
British provider WRN
Broadcast. The total on-
demand archive includesmore
than 4,700minutes weekly.

brings products and services

vendors to teleport operator
members at a discount. The
TDC is a portal to the
products, systems and
integration services of
leading suppliers in the
satellite uplinking industry.
It is also the point of access
to post-sale discounts,
available only to WTA
members, on the purchase of
their technology. Advantech
Wireless, Comtech EF Data
and Newtec are the first
three member providers to
teleports through the WTA
programme.

LG Electronics has added two
more Android devices to its
smartphone line, Optimus Pro
and Optimus Net, featuring
touchscreen, dedicated hotkeys
for email and scheduler tasks,
and the LG Social+ widget which
links in to multiple social
networking portals.
South Korean manufacturer
Samsung is expected to become
the world’s largest smartphone
vendor by volume in the near
future. Sony Ericsson said that
smartphones now represent more
than 70% of its total sales, with
volumes of its Android-based
Xperia line up 150% year-on-year.
According to IHS iSuppli,
shipments of smartphones in
China are set to rise by a record
53% this year to 54.1m. Sales are
dominated by Chinese handset
giants ZTE and Huawei.

Nielsen study showed that
smartphone users are beginning
to move toward ‘mobile only’
content consumption, as mobile
apps overtake traditional
features such as calls, email and

New RFE/RL President
Steven W. Korn, former Vice
Chairman and COO of CNN, took
up office as RFE/RL's new
President and CEO in July, to
oversee RFE/RL's broadcast
operations to 21 countries,
including Iran, Afghanistan,
Pakistan, and Russia, based at
the broadcaster's HQ in Prague.

Chairman Dennis Mulhaupt who
led the search for Jeffrey
Gedmin's successor said Korn's
leadership and wide-ranging
experience will be of enormous
value to RFE/RL.
Earlier this year, RFE's Radio
Azadi, Afghanistan's most popular
radio broadcaster, celebrated the
opening of a new state-of-the-
art broadcast bureau in Kabul.
The move completes the rollout
of a series of ambitious mobile
news and citizen journalism
projects, connecting Radio Azadi
more directly with the growing
number of mobile phone users
across Afghanistan.
