THE AIBs
Still time to win
This summer, broadcasters from
all over the world will cover
stories from London, either
directly from the Olympic venues
or stories that reflect the city of
London: its residents, its visitors,
its hidden gems, its culture and,
of course, the world’s athletes
staying there.
For this year’s AIBs, we have
created a special award for
outstanding coverage of London
and the Games – we have called
it
Best coverage of London 2012
.
We’re searching for the best
stories that have been told in the
most compelling way around the
Olympics.
All entries must be received
by 20 September

Inspiring and intelligent – was the feedback and
the buzz in the room at the AIB International
Media Awards last year. Now the 2012 AIBs are
well underway, with winners and finalists to be
announced on 7 November. AIB CEO Simon
Spanswick reports
2012
rom South Africa to
Malaysia, Hong Kong
to the Philippines,
Canada to France,
programme makers
have this year
responded to our
search for the best factual content in
TV and radio. And entries for the
AIBs 2012 are still coming in for the
ʹBest coverage of London 2012ʹ
category, closing on 20 September.
We know producers and editors
submit their work because winning
an AIB brings peer recognition for
the producer, respect to those who
commissioned the work and shows
that a channelʹs programming and
content is really working, delivering
the very best to audiences.
INDUSTRY SUPPORT
AIB cannot organise these awards
without the support and involvement
of the industry. We are delighted to
have Eurosport and RTG TV as key
sponsors for this yearʹs AIB
International Media Awards ‐ and
the AIB team extends special
thanks to these companies for their
continuing generous support of this
international competition.
JUDGES
For the majority of AIBs awards
categories – there are 18 in total –
shortlisting is now underway to
arrive at the – usually long –
shortlist. Then our judges will have
the difficult task to determine the
outright winner among what is
already an outstanding range of
entries. As in previous years, our
judges are drawn from all sectors of
the media. They are respected
professionals in their field and we
greatly appreciate that they give
their time and expertise so
generously in the judging process.
AWARDSNIGHT
On Wednesday 7 November the
winners and finalists of the AIB
International Media Awards will
finally be announced at a glittering
awards gala in London. We are
returning to the magnificent visual
and acoustic space of LSO St Lukeʹs
‐ a venue that consistently wows
our guests from all over the world.
Itʹs an evening that celebrates
excellence and success. In the
course of this evening, as finalists
and winners are showcased on the
big screen, our guests will get a
very real insight into the quality
and the range of entries as well as
having the chance to meet their
peers from all over the world. And
there’s always a surprise or two
during the evening.
JOINUS
We hope that you will join us and
colleagues from all over the world
for the AIBs awards gala in London
on 7 November – to network, to be
inspired, to exchange information,
to celebrate success, to witness
great programmes, great technology,
and meet the human faces behind
the product. See you in London!
