AIB
INCREASINGLY INFLUENTIAL
AIB continues to increase the activities it undertakes on behalf of members around the world. We ensure that we deliver the best possible range of services to provide value across a number of distinct areas. In addition to the regular market intelligence briefings that we offer exclusively to our members (and which receive highly positive feedback), AIB is now working on a strategy that will see our members take advantage of new platforms through alliances that we're forming in mobile and in social media. Later in 2010, we are arranging a high-level mission to the West Coast of the USA to forge relationships with organisations that are shaping the media world - social networks, search and content companies and hardware companies, too. This new initiative will ensure that AIB members are at the heart of strategic decision-making in these increasingly powerful and influential organisations - it means that AIB members could potentially have a major head start over other competing companies.
In South Asia we are developing new relationships, too, with mobile and VAS operators. AIB members' content will be available on mobile devices across the region, thanks to alliances that AIB is forging. We're working at Ministerial level in the region to ensure that AIB members' interests are looked after. And the AIB continues to grow. We're in touch with more people in the media industries around the world than ever before - we reach them through our online publications, this magazine (in both print and digital editions), our international media excellence awards (the AIBs), and in many other ways. It means that news from AIB members is constantly in front of an ever-expanding audience of executives, technologists, editors, regulators, parliamentarians and other key constituencies in more than 160 countries.
Later this year, we'll be electing the new AIB Executive Committee that helps develop AIB's global work programme. Six senior executives from AIB members will be elected to the Committee for a two-year period to drive the organisation forward. If you want to help direct the work of this increasingly influential, international organisation, now's the time to sign up as a member!
So get involved with AIB today. You can get a taste of the type of things AIB does at our gala awards evening in London on 9 November - details are on page 32. And of course you can talk to us to discuss exactly what AIB can do for you. Call us on +44 20 7993 2557.
MEET THE AIB; JOIN US, TOO!
AIB attends a significant number of key media industry events across the globe to represent its members, gather intelligence and meet key opinion-formers and executives in the global media industry.
Over the coming months, we're at the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival in the UK in August, IBC in Amsterdam in September (stand 11.F02), the ABU General Assembly in Tokyo and the CASBAA Convention in Hong Kong, both in October.
"AIB covers the world and it's important that we support leading industry events and use them to keep the organisation and our members up-to-date," says Simon Spanswick, AIB CEO. "It's vital that we know about markets globally, and that we spread the word about what our members are doing. It also means AIB is a unique source of information about broadcasting and media devel-opment in multiple markets." The information AIB gathers goes into the market intelligence briefings we supply as part of AIB membership benefits and is also used to support the consulting work AIB undertakes for clients around the world.
If you are attending any of these events - and others that we highlight on the AIB website at www.aib.org.uk - please come and talk to us. We'd very much like to hear your views on the current state of the media industry and discuss how we might work together.
