Mediterranean area, has a new president,
Carlo Sartori who succeeds José Vila Abello

Top changes at Radio France and RFI
Antoine Schwarz has been nominated
president of Radio France Internationale
(RFI) by the Conseil supérieur de
l’audiovisuel (CSA), the French broadcast
media regulator, for a five-year term. A
statement issued by the CSA stated that “The
experience and skills of Mr Antoine Schwarz,
as well as the responsibilities he exercised
in the broadcasting field, both in the
government’s News, Legal and Technical
Service and at Radio Monte Carlo (RMC)
where he was director general of the Société
financière de radiodiffusion (Sofirad), are
appropriate to the post of president of Radio
France Internationale.”
His nomination follows the appointment
of Jean-Paul Cluzel as director general of
Radio France on 12 May.
Dyke and Ball join Sat 1
The UK’s two foremost - but out of work
- television executives have been hired
by the entrepreneur Haim Saban to sit
on the supervisory board of
ProSiebenSat.1. Greg Dyke, the former
BBC director general, and Tony Ball, the
former chief executive of British Sky
Broadcasting, will advise the company
taken over by Saban last year after the
collapse of Kirch Media. Dyke said he was,
as yet, unsure as to the exact nature of
his role at the company, and that the
main attraction for agreeing was to learn
more about German television as well as
offering the company advice. Ball had
signed a non-compete clause when he
left BSkyB last year, but apparently the
agreement allowed him to join non-UK
European operators.
Radio Liberty on air in Ukraine on Takt
Radio Liberty programmes are being
broadcast by Takt, a local radio station

powerful station in this region, is the
first in Ukraine to agree to cooperate
with Radio Liberty after Dovira FM
dropped Radio Liberty’s programmes.
Takt can be heard throughout the
Vinnitsia region, as well as areas of
Khmelnytsky, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, and
Odesa, and in Moldova.
Kingston inmedia re-brands; names new chair
On 1 June Kingston inmedia, one of the industry’s leading communications service
providers, started trading simply as Inmedia. The change follows the leveraged buyout
in April 2004 by management and The Carlyle Group, a global private equity firm. The
focus of the name change is business and brand continuity. Inmedia will continue to
deliver broadcast, enterprise and carrier solutions for content owners, programme makers,
broadcasters, corporations, carriers and ISPs using satellite and terrestrial technologies.
“We chose to stay with the Inmedia name as we feel it is very relevant to all aspects
of our business. In all fairness a lot of our customers and partners have called us
Inmedia for some time now and we wanted to make sure that they know they can
expect the same high levels of service and product innovation that they have become
used to,” said Nick Thompson, Chief Executive of Inmedia.
Meanwhile the company has appointed Richard Vos, former chairman of Inmarsat,
as chairman of the board. The other members of the board include Nick Thompson,
CEO, Julian Portman, Finance Director, and David FitzGerald and Bruno Mourgue
d’Algue from The Carlyle Group.
CBC/Radio-Canada chooses DaletPlus radio suite
Dalet, a leading provider of media management tools, has announced that CBC/
Radio-Canada will deploy DaletPlus Radio Suite across its national radio networks.
This installation will be among the largest systems in existence. “This is the second-
generation digital audio production system we are deploying at the CBC”, explained
Ray Carnovale, Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer of CBC/Radio-Canada.
“We reviewed a number of systems on the market and after detailed evaluation
concluded that DaletPlus Radio Suite was the only one that would meet our
requirements in terms of scalability and open architecture.”
“CBC/Radio-Canada already had one of the largest digital audio systems world-wide”
commented Mr. David Lasry, president of Dalet. “CBC/Radio-Canada is one of the first
broadcasters world-wide to adopt an enterprise media platform nation-wide whereby
the corporate WAN becomes a core platform for broadcast production and distribution.”
Over 2000 DaletPlus Radio Suite workstations will be deployed across 50 sites in
the coming 18 months. The resulting digital audio production network will span
Canada allowing for the exchange of broadcast material over standard IP networks.
