AIB appoints
Business Development Director
Anver Anderson has been appointed to the newly created position of
Business Development Director at the Association for International
Broadcasting. Anver’s role includes developing and implementing new
services for the AIB’s growing number of members, and ensuring that the
existing services provided to members meet their needs. He will also be
identifying potential new members from across the international
broadcasting industry.
“I’m delighted to be joining the AIB at a time
when the organisation is growing, both in terms
of number of members and in the work it is carrying
out across international broadcasting,” says Anver.
“There are many issues facing broadcasters and
their service providers and partners, and the AIB
has much to offer members across the areas of
regulation, representation, intelligence and
lobbying. It’s exciting to be involved in the
development of the AIB’s work and in supporting
its members.”
Anver is a former marketing director of satellite operator Europe*Star, where
he was responsible for the company’s video markets strategy throughout
the five regions covered by the Europe*Star 1satellite: Europe, Middle East,
Southern Africa, Indian subcontinent and South East Asia. Most recently
he was responsible for creating and introducing the company’s Occasional
Use services. Previous positions include head of sales with the UK-based
facilities management company and teleport operator Merlin
Communications, director of European sales with Williams Vyvx Services,
and Business Planning and Market Analysis manager at Inmarsat.
“Anver’s experience across the satellite and broadcasting industries, together
with his strategic and analytical skills, will provide immense benefits to the
AIB and our members,” comments Simon Spanswick, Chief Executive of the
Association. “With Anver’s appointment, the AIB senior management team
now has a complete range of skills that will enable the Association to
further develop and bring new benefits to its members.”

AIB to open Asia-Pacific office
The AIB will be opening its first office outside the United Kingdom in
September 2003. Kerry Stevenson, the AIB’s Director of
Communications, will be heading up the AIB’s office in
Sydney which will lead liaison with the AIB’s members
in the Asia-Pacific region. Kerry will continue to lead
the AIB’s worldwide communications strategy and will
also oversee the AIB’s annual Global Media Business
Conference.
“The Asia-Pacific region is a vital one in the broadcasting
industry,” says Kerry. “There are more international TV
channels and radio stations competing for viewers and
listeners than ever before, and service providers, manufacturers and
consultants all recognise that the region is one that needs support and the
full range of services. The AIB is well placed to develop its membership in
the region, and to work with other established organisations in the area.”
A range of potential members has been identified across the Asia-Pacific
region and Kerry will be seeking to grow the organisation’s presence and
stature in an enormous geographic area.
“The opening of our Sydney office is a natural and timely development for
the AIB,” says Simon Spanswick, Chief Executive of the Association. “Our
current members in the region are delighted that we’re pushing into the
region with representation and improved services, and members elsewhere
in the world that are seeking to enter this growing market will find our on-
the-ground presence of particular advantage.”
