his September at the United
Nations, 193 world leaders will
put their names to a set of 17
‘Global Goals’ (for Sustainable
Development) – targets for people and
the planet, designed to be achieved over
the next 15 years. The simple objective of
Project Everyone is to attempt to make
these Goals ‘famous’. Devised by the
film-maker and campaigner, Richard
Curtis, the project incorporates education,
mobile, cinema, online and faith based
projects – as well as a seven day radio
pop-up called
Radio Everyone.
Do you remember the ‘Millennium
Development Goals’? The MDGs were a
list of eight targets for the world to hit by
the year 2015, and there are impressive
top-lines – for example the number of
people living in extreme poverty has
halved and the maternal mortality ratio
has declined by 45%. But even though the
MDGs were devised as a plan for every-
one, and signed up to by all the member
states of the UN, most people around the
world have never heard of them.
This is what we are setting out to
change with the new set of Global Goals.
We have set ourselves the task of trying
to reach all seven billion people across the
world with the message of the Goals in
some way. The thought being that the
more widely known and understood the
goals are, the more people will care about
them and hold their leader accountable to
making sure they are delivered.
WORTHY OBJECTIVES
If the Goals are achieved by 2030, then we
could be the first generation to end
extreme poverty, the most determined
generation to end inequality and injustice
and the last generation to be threatened
by the effects of climate change. These
feel like objectives worth caring about.
So, from September 26th, our project will
include a number of ambitious elements:
a lesson in schools supported by over 100
different Education ministries across the
world; a global cinema advert showing in
over 30 different markets; a global text
message being sent to well over a billion
subscribers – and of course a new global
radio station broadcasting for seven days.
Radio Everyone
is a 7-day plan to use
radio in all its forms to help with the
mission. It will feature programmes
hosted and curated by a range of global
superstars. Our first raft of confirmed
names included AR Rahman and Hrithik
Roshan from India, D’Banj and Ice Prince
from Nigeria and Gilberto Gil from
Brazil. And at the start of September we
will release further brilliant names from
the UK, Australia, the US, Italy and
beyond. We will have a range of
surprising hosts, many of whom will be
radio novices, bringing their passions
(and their fan groups) to a brand new
proposition. The programmes will air live
on an online stream, at globalgoals.org,
and will be shared by a range of digital
partners.
ANUMBERS GAME
However, we are in the numbers game!
Radio Everyone
must add meaningfully to
the big target of 7bn. The only way to
come close to achieving that is by
partnering with radio stations who have
an existing platform and an existing
audience. We are inviting stations to
become part of a unique network of
broadcasters, across the 7 days from 26
September, all with the shared objective
of making the global Goals famous.
We will share with all of our partners a
kit of parts to help them achieve this:
station sound composed by Peter Gabriel,
clips of audio from globally renowned
celebrities talking about the goals, PSA’s
in 10 different languages, a production
Can you reach seven
billion people with a
message in seven
days? That is the
brilliantly ambitious
target that Project

guide and briefing pack (also in 10
languages) and highlights from the
Global Citizen festival.
Stations can use this content to bring
the themes of the goals to life – as well as
making their own bespoke content. And
they can do this in whichever way works
best for their particular format or demo-
graphic. We have some amazing partner
broadcasters on board, and already have
a presence in over 35 countries. We are
proud to be working with Deutsche
Welle, WNYC in the US, Ray Power FM
in Nigeria, Big FM in India, Globo in
Brazil, SABA in Southern Africa, Mercury
Media Group in Indonesia, RAI in Italy
and Absolute in the UK.
POWERFUL RADIO
But… this is
Radio Everyone
. We welcome
every radio station or group of whatever
scale to come and join the project. Please
do sign up and commit to something
unique and huge. We all know how
powerful radio can be, so let’s use this
amazing medium to do something really
special. We aren’t fund-raising. We aren’t
even campaigning. We are letting radio
audiences around the world know about
the existence of these goals, and by doing so
could help make the world a better place
by the year 2030.
Our range of partners is stellar: Global
Citizen are putting on a concert in
Central Park featuring Coldplay and
Beyonce. Wikipedia are
trans-lating the goals
into 250 languages. One
Direction have teamed
up with Action/2015 for
their Action/1D
initiative. There are so
many participants, all
with a shared aim: to
make the Goals famous.
Why don’t you join us?
