ports is one of the
most lucrative
industries today
worldwide, for
broadcasters and
vendors alike.
Grass Valley offers
a complete suite of products that
form an end‐to‐end solution in any
sports coverage environment,
whether itʹs the sports venue itself,
or a remote production studio, or
an OB truck. Our key product lines
include cameras, video switchers of
various sizes, as well as routing
switchers, and of course our SloMo
replay solution. Grass Valley is
unique in that we have an end‐to‐
end product line which gives our
customers the tools for sports
coverage and production in a
seamless workflow environment.
What's the advantage?
This is not just easier from a
logistics perspective but having one
solution also makes it more cost‐
effective – and support is better as
well. So itʹs one solution in terms of
the various product lines but itʹs
equally important that each of the
products are the best products on
the market today in their own
category. If we look at cameras, our
new LDX camera series is superior
to other cameras available today,
offering better picture quality, an
anti‐flicker feature, and less weight.

If we look at our switchers, with
GV Director we introduced, for the
first time, a non‐linear production
centre that allows customers to
operate differently in a live
environment.
And of course our k2 Dyno, the
SloMo replay solution, is by far the
most feature‐rich in the market. The
k2 Dyno has been in the market for
some years so itʹs a well‐known
product, and more and more
operators are asking for it to be
installed in their OB trucks. There is
nothing like watching a football
match with super SloMo, whether
itʹs coming from the camera or the
SloMo replay system. More and
more production companies want
to differentiate themselves from
others by going that way and Grass
Valley has the proven technology to
do it.
You are delivering HDTV in Ethiopia
– what's your role?
In Africa the digital transition is
still happening, from analogue to
digital and from SD to HD. We
have been working in Ethiopia with
government‐owned Amhara TV for
over a year now to build the
countryʹs first HD terrestrial TV
broadcast station. Grass Valley
solutions will be used to outfit two
HD studios and a master control
room. Amhara TV is an important

With world headquarters in San Francisco,
broadcast technology company Grass Valley is
used to stiff competition as the only non-Japanese
cameramanufacturer today. SaidBacho, Senior
Vice President EMEA believes the company is able
to outperform its competitors by out-innovating
them– in a product portfolio ranging from image
acquisition to playout. We asked himwhy sports
broadcasters should come to Grass Valley for their
