IB understands the international
media industry, constantly
researching and talking to people at
all levels in multiple markets –
we've been doing that since 1993. That's how we
maintain our unique and comprehensive view of
the media industry, as well as knowing what
impact changes in technology and consumer
behaviour will have on the media in the short,
medium and long term.
Our worldwide contacts and the invaluable
context AIB provides are two of the reasons
we've welcomed three new members recently.
The communications infrastructure and media
services company Arqiva and footage and
moving image company ITN Source have both
joined AIB as corporate members. Leading
global provider of content management and
worldwide transmission services GlobeCast has
enrolled as a gold-level member of AIB -
demonstrating the company's commitment to
international broadcasting.
LESSONS FORRIO 2016?
Context is going to be important for sports
broadcasters in 2012 as the XXX Olympiad takes
place in London - covered by more broadcasters
and offered on more screens than ever before.
AIB is currently working with the All England
Lawn Tennis Club - one of the London 2012
sporting venues - to deliver a high-level
invitation-only one-day briefing that will look at
the way broadcasters - including rights-holders
and non rights-holders - covered the London
Games. The briefing will look at the
technological successes of broadcast coverage,
how the BBC as host broadcaster addressed the
challenges of covering the Games for UK

audiences as well as providing international
audiences with relevant information, the way the
XXX Olympiad was covered for "second screen"
users and what lessons there may be for Rio 2016.
This highly interactive Post-Olympic
Broadcast Briefing will take place on Friday 12
October 2012 overlooking Number One court at
the Wimbledon tennis grounds
and will be attended by
directors of sport and other
key executives from broad-
casters, social networks and
technology providers from
across the world. If you are interested in being
involved, please contact the AIB via e-mail at
, or call on +44 20 7993 2557.
WHO STOODOUT?
Sport will also be a focus in this year's AIBs, the
international media excellence awards that will
be launched in April. In this Olympic year, AIB
judges will be looking for the best coverage of
London 2012 - which broadcaster delivered the
most relevant and exciting coverage of the XXX
Olympiad, encompassing traditional and second-
screen media. Technology has advanced since
Beijing and we can expect a crop of outstanding
entries in sport and in the range of factual TV,
radio and online categories. Details of the 2012
AIBs will be available online at theaibs.tv from
early April – be sure to enter.
Working across TV, radio and online media, AIB is in touch
with more than 26,000 media executives. Importantly, says
AIB CEO Simon Spanswick, the industry organisation offers
not only contacts but context too
