Arvato EditMate
How to Improve Production Workflow Efficiency

The production process is key to the success of the broadcaster. However, even careful, disciplined users can find the complex editing projects confusing processes and disrupting metadata.

EditMate has been created to respond to precisely this challenge. With Adobe ® Premiere® Pro and MAM integration, the Arvato Systems solution for collaborative edit projects delivers significant improvements in workflows, acting as a true Production Asset Management system for Adobe Premiere Pro CC®

The latest release of EditMate is packed with innovations including EditMate proxy. The new functionality offers smooth, hassle-free editing across networks. Even where bandwidth is limited, users can work remotely on their projects. Finished sequences are automatically finalized in HiRes at the central facility.

Gabon media under pressure
According to media observations by BBC Monitoring, Gabon has been suffering from a partial media blackout since the country was plunged into post-electoral violence on 31 August. BBCM says that traditional media outlets have been severely affected by the crisis, forcing Gabonese to turn to foreign outlets for news. Internet connectivity in the country has been down since the declaration on 31 August of the re-election of President Ali Bongo, though there are unconfirmed reports that the internet may have been restored in the capital Libreville on 5 September. Access to social media platforms, however, is reportedly still blocked.
While government-owned RTG1 and Gabon24 remain on air, private TV Radio Television Nazareth has been off the air since its premises suffered an arson attack on 31 August. Radio France Internationale has reported that another private TV station, TV Plus, was also attacked.

Vietnam pushes YouTube channels
Vietnam is moving into the YouTube age as its national and regional broadcasters launch channels on YouTube and invest in programming exclusively for the online world. National broadcaster VTV has launched VTCTube, attracting what it says is more than 80 million viewers - in a country with a population of around 90m. The country's young programme makers and production staff are travelling to places like Singapore and Korea to learn new skills and gain new insights into modern TV programming.

IBC opens its doors
The annual IBC conference and exhibition gets underway this week (Thursday 8-Tuesday 13 September). Some 50,000 people will descend on Amsterdam to see more than 1,600 exhibitors and hear from expert speakers from across the world. The AIB will be there - CEO Simon Spanswick will be joining Peter White for a conversation on IABM TV, as well as visiting the AIB's Members who are exhibiting. We're looking forward to the keynote session featuring Sir Martin Sorrell in conversation with Ray Snoddy on Friday - doubtless the topics will include Sorrell's "Common Ground" initiative that brings together the major advertising agencies to assist the UN Sustainable Development Goals. And that's something that the AIB is working on (see following story).
If you need a break from the RAI exhibition centre, you could sample some great food - see our guide to the AIB's favourite restaurants in Amsterdam here.

AIB working on sustainability
Sustainability brief
The Association for International Broadcasting has started a series of work around sustainability in broadcasting that is designed to help its Members - and the wider media industry - to operate their businesses with less impact on the environment. Part of the work involves assisting with best practice for broadcasters and production companies. Another strand of the AIB's work is designed to help broadcasters cover issues around sustainability and climate action effectively and proactively.
The AIB has published a briefing note for broadcasters and production companies to provide a range of simple suggestions about how to make day-to-day operations more sustainable. You can read the briefing note here.
The media industry is now exploring how it can work together to follow the advertising agencies' lead in working to ensure the success of the SDGs - and the AIB is collaborating with the United Nations and the World Bank on an initiative that will be announced in the coming weeks. Watch the AIB website for more information.
The AIBs - judging about to start
The entries are in, the short-listing has been completed - now it is the turn of our global panel of judges to find the winners among the record number of entries submitted to this year's AIBs
"The quality of work we have seen in this 12th international competition is truly remarkable," says AIB awards co-ordinator, Clare Dance. "We are privileged to see so much quality journalism from broadcasters and producers around the world, across TV, radio and online. This year's competition is going to challenge our judges more than ever. We're looking forward to seeing the results on November 2nd!"
The AIBs 2016 will be presented at our gala evening in London on Wednesday 2 November at LSO St Luke's. Tables are already being booked so it's going to be another sell-out event. And we're introducing a new event the day after the awards - details will be announced in mid-September, along with the shortlist for this year's AIBs.

And the AIB is pleased to welcome MediaGuru as a second sponsor of this year's awards, joining global communications company Eutelsat. India-based Pixel Party are once again providing the graphics support for the AIBs.

iO Media Group launches LNS

The iO Media Group has been working with small, medium and large news and sports organisations around the world, for decades. While they have vast experience of setting up and running international scale, 24 hours news channels, it was while working with smaller organisations that they realised the need for work flows and news room systems designed specifically for smaller operations, based on less complex systems, which were easier to operate and yet achieve everything the bigger systems could do, without their increased complexity. Also important was the ability to operate webcast and appcast applications, without double handling and increased manpower. The iO Media Group's aim was to achieve a broadcast, webcast and appcast system at the touch of a button. After thorough development, over many years, the iO Media Group has announced the Live News System (LNS) which they launch at IBC in September.
